First Draft

First Draft

What almost people do when they are depressed or need to refresh themselves for many reasons? What people do when they are boring during the time in the public transportation or some other places? They listen to music putting on the earphones everywhere and anytime. Even some students who try to solve some math problems listen to music despite of universal bias that listening to music can disturb concentrating on math study. Also many people who are listening to music when they are in public transportation, walk on the street or wait someone can be seen easily in our eyes. In addition, many places such as restaurants, department stores and even school turn on some music in accordance with each ambiance or characteristics.
Like this, music bounds up with human in modern society. Moreover, Friedrich Nietzsche said "without music, life would be a mistake"Like he said, music has settled in our society deeply for a long time. Music has a anonymous influence people in the world regardless of their gender, age, background and it is connected with human mind making them feel a variety of feelings. Generally music influences on human mind variously leading many surprising things. So, music has a considerable effects on human mind.
Music has been from the past to present and will be in the future with various forms. According to the documents, the most isolated tribal groups have had a form of music. And it proves that music is likely to have existed in the ancestral period prior to the dispersal of humans around the world and it means that music may have been in existence for at least 50,000 years then evolved to become a fundamental constituent of human life. There are some examples of effects of music on human mind that played one of the basic actions through some greatest people in our history.
First, Thomas Jefferson who has written the Declaration of Independence is one of the case who influenced by music. Thomas Jefferson declared that music is the favorite passion of his soul and he loved music. When he could not find correct wording for a certain part of it, he listened music as well as played the violin to help him come up with the words from his brain onto the paper.
Second, Albert Einstein is the second case of the greatest person who was influences by music. Albert's parents bought him a violin instead of following the school's advice that he was too stupid to learn and it would be a waste of resources for the school to invest time and energy in his education. Then he became a fantastic performer of the violin and music helped Albert Einstein become the greatest music lover as well as great performer of the violin. Einstein himself says that the reason he was so smart is because he loved music through playing the violin. Besides, a friend of Einstein said that the way Einstein figured out his problems and equations was by improvising on the violin.
As we can see the cases of the greatest people, it has turned out that a moderate noise level of the music can improve creativity. The way this works is that moderate noise levels increase processing difficulty which promotes abstract processing, leading to higher creativity. In other words, when we struggle to process things as we normally would, we resort to more creative approaches. Even it looks paradoxical slightly, music can improve creativity.
There are many positive effects of music on human mind that exert amazing results.
First, music can effect on human mind with social aspect. Music is a basic phenomenon created in society interacting with people. Numerous songs are releasing everyday and people enjoy new released music as well as old popular music. In this situation, people feel sense of unity and belonging within certain community. For example, in the 1990s, the singer group 'SeoTaeJi and boys' was criticized for the reason that their songs are difficult and don't fit with Korean culture. However, after a month, they changed the current of Korean music market and become the idol of teenagers. One of their song, Come Back Home especially rippled huge social effects. After the song was released, teenage runaways whom even police couldn't find and the parents couldn't make them come back home actually came back home by themselves. In this case, teenage runaways' mind felt sense of belonging and accepted the song to their mind and situation.
Second, the right music can put somebody in better mood and soothe emotional confusion related to breath and blood pressure. That's because music has the ability to express people's feelings better than any other medium. A new study reported in Heart, a British Medical Journal publication, has shown that listening to fast music increases blood pressure, whereas listening to slower music has the opposite effect. People who have listened different 6 kinds of music proved this facts. Also, people generally breathe 25~35 times for a minute. But the speed of breathing becomes different in accordance with the music people listen to. Deep and slow breathing can make people control their feelings, do deep thinking, undergo better metabolism change. Music can achieve these amazing things.
Third, music has the ability to ease the pain. In fact, according to a paper in the Journal of Advanced Nursing, music can reduce chronic pain by up to 21%. The paper reports that 60 patients participated in a controlled clinical trial and were subdivided into two groups — music and no music. The results suggest that people who listened to music for an hour each day for a week had improved physical and psychological symptoms compared to those who didn't listen to music. So there days, people made music therapy that can accomplish individual goals within a therapeutic relationship by a professional who has finished an approved music therapy program.  Music therapy uses music and all of its facets—physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic, and spiritual—for clients' physical and mental health such as cognitive functioning, motor skills, emotional development, social skills, and quality of life by using music experiences such as free improvisation, singing, and listening to, discussing, and moving to music to achieve treatment goals.
Lastly, music training can improve our motor and reasoning skills significantly that are related to human mind. One study showed that children who had three years or more musical instrument training performed better than those who did not learn an instrument in auditory discrimination abilities and fine motor skillsThey also distinguished themselves better on vocabulary and nonverbal reasoning skills, which involve understanding and analyzing visual information, such as identifying relationships, similarities and differences between shapes and patterns. These two areas in particular are quite removed from musical training as we imagine it, so it’s fascinating to see how learning to play an instrument can help kids develop such a wide variety of important skills.
Some people can say that music makes people feel distracted and there exists high possibility that people's concentration can be dispersed easily when they are being absorbed in something. However, it is not always true. It can be different accordance with which song a person listens to.
In addition, opponents would say that some study says certain kinds of music make people feel likely to commit a suicide. For example, a song named 'gloomy Sunday' are regarded as the most mysterious song ever. In Paris,1936, one of the members of the orchestra that performed gloomy Sunday has committed a suicide with a gun and there were no people left after finishing the performing. However, it isn't also always true. In the world where we live now, there are happy and delightful music that convey happiness and pleasure to people than the song like gloomy Sunday. So the opposition's opinion isn't logical.
As we think about our daily lives, music is always with us and it will be in the future, too. People gain lots of benefits from music. Music music can effect on human mind with social aspect. Music interact with people expressing people's feeling and is a basic phenomenon created in society. People feel sense of unity and belonging as enjoying numerous songs released everyday. Music can put somebody in better mood and help get out of emotional confusion allowing controlling  breath and blood pressure. Also music has the ability to ease the pain and people are developing methods to make full use of music to relieve the pain such as music therapy. Moreover, music can improve our motor and reasoning skills significantly that are related to human mind. Music's ability is infinite and it will exert its  stronger power in the future as well as present. So music has  positive considerable effects on human mind.

Narration

My persuasive argument thesis is
Music has a considerable effects on human mind.

1. What do people already know about my topic?
Everyone knows that they can get in contact in music easily everywhere they go and anytime they want.

2. What research has already been done about my topic?
     >>>effects of music socially.
   >>>related news or blog case of Seo Tae Ji 'Come back home'
   >>>the examples of  Albert Einstein or Thomas Jefferson
(4)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_music
   >>>history of music

3. What are the implications of my argument (What if I'm right? What if I'm right and people ignore me?)
If my argument is right, people should acknowledge the positive effects of music on human mind and try to adapt music to positive and better use.

My Narration

Music has been from the past to present and will be in the future with various forms. According to the documents, the most isolated tribal groups had a form of music.

Second, Albert Einstein is the second case of the greatest person who was influences by music. Albert's parents bought him a violin instead of following the school's advice that he was too stupid to learn and it would be a waste of resources for the school to invest time and energy in his education. that the reason he was so smart is because he played the violin.

Introduction

INTRODUCTION

1. Attract the audience.

What almost people do when they are depressed or need to refresh themselves? What people do when they are boring during the time in the public transportation or some places? They listen to music putting on the earphones everywhere and anytime. Even some students who try to solve some math problems listen to music despite of universal bias that listening to music can disturb concentrating on math study. Also many people who are listening to music when they are in public transportation, walk on the street or wait someone can be seen easily in our eyes. In addition, many places such as restaurants, department stores and even school turn on some music in accordance with each ambiance or characteristics.

2. Explain the topic
Like this, music bound up with human in modern society. Moreover, Friedrich Nietzsche said "without music, life would be a mistake". Like he said, music has settled in our society deeply for a long time. Music has a anonymous influence people in the world regardless of their gender, age, background and it is connected with human mind making them feel a variety of feelings. Generally music influence on human mind variously leading many surprising things.

3. Declare your thesis
So, music has  considerable positive effects on human mind.

Articulation

1) My argument
Music has considerable positive effects on human mind.

2) How I found my argument
I usually enjoy listening to music and i can see lots of people who listen to music easily. When my friends study hard during examination period, they study with music. Also when i ride a public transformation, almost people spend there time with earphone on their ears listening to music. So i wondered how music influences on human mind and wanted to research more specifically about music.

3) New research questions
I have several questions that need to be resolved.
a) How does music secrete much more endorphin?
b) What areas are the brain effected when people listen to music?
c) What are the examples of the influences of music?
I'll continue browsing the internet and looking for interesting articles and keeping track of my research with blog posts.

4) Connections to the Harvard Sampler
This argument has many connections to the Harvard Sampler because it is directly related to the human mind.

Classical Argument Outline

1. The introduction, which warms up the audience, establishes goodwill and rapport with the readers, and announces the general theme or thesis of the argument.
I will start by noticing the reality and situation that people live with music everywhere in our society and the fact that they are familiar with music already. Also i will write some examples of people such as me, friends, family who are influenced by music. Then, i will end with my thesis, music has considerable positive effects on human mind.
2. The narration, which summarizes relevant background material, provides any information the audience needs to know about the environment and circumstances that produce the argument, and set up the stakes-what’s at risk in this question. In academic writing, this often takes the form of a literature review.
I will suggest the characteristics of  music and articles that show some old people who was influenced by music to highlight that music had a power on human mind from old times. And i will summarize the research I've done the positive effects of music.
3. The confirmation, which lays out in a logical order (usually strongest to weakest or most obvious to most subtle) the claims that support the thesis, providing evidence for each claim.
I will suggest my several concrete opinion, the positive effects of music related to modern world(not old times like Albert Einstein or Thomas Jefferson) to support my thesis.
4. The refutation and concession, which looks at opposing viewpoints to the writer’s claims, anticipating objections from the audience, and allowing as much of the opposing viewpoints as possible without weakening the thesis.
IF the opponents say about the negative effects of music such as distraction or effects of lyrics and sound on human mind, I will concede them because it is right that music can't have only positive effect. But i will counter-argue those opinion step by step.
5. The summation, which provides a strong conclusion, amplifying the force of the argument,  and showing the readers that this solution is the best at meeting the circumstances.
I will close with a summary of my previous points, then a brief consideration of the  development of music industry in the world related to human mind. Then I will end with a reaffirmation of my original thesis.

Source:
Effects of music on the human brain (also mind).
http://www.cerebromente.org.br/n15/mente/musica.html

My Topic:
Music has considerable positive effects on human mind.

What I hope to learn from this source:
I want to find some facts that can help develop my topic and some supporting examples through this source contains the contents 'effects of music on the human brain' and connect the content with effects of music on the human mind also.

Notes:
  1. Thomas Jefferson- Music helped him write the Declaration of Independence. When he could not figure out the right wording for a certain part, he would play his violin to help him. The music helped him get the words from his brain onto the paper.
  2. Albert Einstein- He has been good at the violin since he was young. Music was the key that helped Albert Einstein become one of the smartest men who has ever lived. Einstein himself says that the reason he was so smart is because he played the violin. He loved the music of Mozart and Bach the most. A friend of Einstein, G.J. Withrow, said that the way Einstein figured out his problems and equations was by improvising on the violin.
  3.  Mozart's music and baroque music, with a 60 beats per minute beat pattern, activate the left and right brain. The simultaneous left and right brain action maximizes learning and retention of information. The information being studied activates the left brain while the music activates the right brain. Also, activities which engage both sides of the brain at the same time, such as playing an instrument or singing, causes the brain to be more capable of processing information.
  4. According to The Center for New Discoveries in Learning, learning potential can be increased a minimum of five times by using this 60 beats per minute music. For example, the ancient Greeks sang their dramas because they understood how music could help them remember more easily ). A renowned Bulgarian psychologist, Dr. George Lozanove, designed a way to teach foreign languages in a fraction of the normal learning time. Using his system, students could learn up to one half of the vocabulary and phrases for the whole school term (which amounts to almost 1,000 words or phrases) in one day. Along with this, the average retention rate of his students was 92%. Dr. Lozanov's system involved using certain classical music pieces from the baroque period which have around a 60 beats per minute pattern. He has proven that foreign languages can be learned with 85-100% efficiency in only thirty days by using these baroque pieces. His students had a recall accuracy rate of almost 100% even after not reviewing the material for four years.
Final Thoughts:
First of all, music was one of the reasons for someone to be a greatest scientist and to write the Declaration of Independence. That means, from old times to now, music plays a enormous role on human mind.
